2007 Explorer

looking at a 2007 Ford Explorer w/136,400miles on it. A couple of questions, how do these handle in the snow and what type of common problem are associated with these fords. I found one for $10000.00 w/$148.999.99miles and visually its clean as a whistle Thanks in advance for any help offered.

I can't speak specifically to the 2007 model year, but overall I've been very pleased with the model. I've owned a 2000 Mountaineer, a 2004 Mountaineer, and a 2004 Aviator (all AWD and V8) and have been very pleased with them all. I never really had any major issues with any of them. The largest expense I've had is a valve body and boring and sleeving of the transmission which ran me around $700. Considering what I paid for the truck, I'm still ahead.

Have you checked the book value on the second Explorer you mention? $10k for a truck with 149,000 miles (if that's what you were trying to type) seems expensive.

With AWD (and probably the ControlTrac 4WD) system the trucks does well in snow. I will say, tires seem to make a big difference. I put Goodyear Forterra tires on my 2000 Mountaineer and it seemed like it would go anywhere I needed to, very confidence inspiring in the snow and ice. My 2004 Mountaineer had Bridgestone Dueler tires on it and it got around really well too. My Aviator has newer Forterra tires on it and they suck. If the street is even just wet it will spin the tires. Coming up to stops with even a little bit of snow and the ABS kicks in as the truck slides to a stop. The tires are like new, but I'm tempted to replace them anyway.
