Is it flopping easily?

I bet the spring clips are broken off.
Watch for the *Hawk* he will help you out.

no, it's not flopping around, it is just loose enough to make you think about tearing the column apart.

how far have you taken it apart? the most common problem is the two pivot pins work there way out. also the pins that pivot and lock the tilt mechanism are famous for working out one side or another. the last and worst case is the three bolts that clamp the tilt knuckle to the tube have torn free and you need to knock it all of the way down and weld the tube back together. hawkrod

You want a blow-up diagram of how the column is assembled ?

I don't know what Hawk will say but I take them right out of the vehicle and service them.
I'm pretty sure it is the only way.

yup, pull and knock it down. its the only sane way. i do dozens of tilts every month but i am sorry to say the only illustrations i have are the factory service manuals (i really don't need them anymore, after about the first 100 or so you sort of have a hard time forgetting how to do it! LOL). hawkrod

This is the best I can do.

I really recommend getting a Ford Shop Manual on CDRom from motorhaven.

The Original Shop Manual is the mechanic's best friend.
