ok. I keep telling myself that I'm going to dig my way out of this rut but I'm not so optimistic anymore.
I inspected the glow plug harness as i was testing continuity on the connectors at the VC. Only checked the passenger side. didn't have time to get to drivers side VC but I found that I had an open circuit on the front connector (both outside pins, 1 and 5 or whatever) and the front glow plug harness connector had a pin that was burnt out.
checked the back and both pins looked and checked good.
I suppose that means I have at least two bad hp's and a bad connector so my thoughts are everything should probably be redone.
I suppose if I'm going to pull VC then here goes my next pile of parts….
-bad glow plug relay (10 volts)
-UVCH both sides
-4 pigtails
-8 glow plugs
-and deeper in debt…
Am I forgetting anything beside a cl posting of my truck for sale?
Anybody have a ballpark on how many deniro's I'm gonna have to scrape up here?
If you buy Ford UVCHs and gaskets from Riffraff along with new GPs, it will run you about $500. You can save a few bucks and get Dorman brand UVCHs and gaskets from a parts store, but don't use anything but Motorcraft ZD-11 glow plugs.
how do you do it Bill? You are always right on the spot even on my worst days!
Sorry. It's been a rough day. found out my 36yo wife has Rheumatoid Arthritis and I'll need about $400 for tires on my work car and another $500 on the truck… Been a rough day...
Just have to throw in what we have seen over the years. The Dorman just don't hold up, which is why we haven't sold them in years. Too many issues, and come backs. This has been the issue with their injector orings, UVCH gaskets and harnesses, as well as their up-pipes. Cheap chinese parts can be temping especially given the economy, but in the long run the OEM parts out last them hands down.

I have never used the Dorman SD UVCHs. Just heard they were good. But they are probably like the OBS ones though, you're right.
I just did this, yes it was expensive, and I could have went with the doorman ones but I didn't want to be back in there for some time, so I elected to go with the Ford ones from Riffraff. Especially when I saw the ones that were in there made it 14 years.
yeah. I won't be skimping on this but I will have to wait for funds to be available.
Yeah. I definitely appreciate the good days and I will say this.
A bad day with an OBS power stroke is still leaps and bounds better than the best day I ever had with my ram with a 360 I had before this one! Took the blue ox out a while ago and this 50deg weather had the turbo singing a happy tune! There was a bright spot in the day after all. I'm not throwing in the towel yet. This truck is too awesome for that! I just hope she holds up on starting until I can get this fixed.

I tired Dorman $h!+ once. I would have been better off using that cash to light some of that wood for a camp fire.
That said I also tried the Ford OBS style stuff too. It worked properly for 2-3 years. This spring I switched to the SD style on my '96. I got the parts from Clay. I will do the same thing again on my '97 if that time ever comes.
You save about $100 IIRC minus $0.50 for the 50 cent mod by going to the SD style.
The only problem with buying parts from Clay is it takes 5 days to get here because he is so far away from me and I am too cheap to pay more for shipping, LOL. But his service and prices are good enough that its worth the wait.
I hear you Clay! Hope to meet you at my first RRE this year. I'll be ordering up some stuff as soon as I get funds… Thanks, Scott
Looking forward to meeting you Scott

If you want I can just give you a friendly reminder every month that you need to buy something. That way you will have it when you need it.
