I have personally seen a 01 L run against 03 ss, and don't get me wrong the ss is fast but really it is only a x-cab pickup with a overrated 3/4 ton motor and some rims, so it did't stand a chance against the lightning especially after the first hundered feet or so
I beat down an SS on my test drive. The SS is too bulky and only like 345HP rated.... Ford is Leading the domestic as of now 07/10/ 2003 . I am sure Dodge and GMC will come out w/ something but the price will be ridiculous to compete w/ the S/C Fords. Heck the Cumaro and Trams Am are gone. They are replaced by a glorified Sunfire(AKA GTO) Which has yet to be really talked about. C'mon GM and Mopar lets stop living in the past.
The lightning has had its dominance days, its a new age now. CHeck the stats and also they have videos where they have run these machines against each other. The ss is a joke and shouldnt even be in the same field as these trucks. From the test I have seen the ram has better accel and top speed is very very close (around 150). The dodge has more weight but more power to compensate. And also check this out http://popularmechanics.com/automoti...astest_pickup/
Why is it that you Dodge guys always post something about some fancy D-mobile that runs 750 Hp or something like that? How about posting a pic of your 750 Hp, 250 Mph beast?
I can't wait to catch a race with the new SRT-10. Several reports that I've read (the latest was Sport Truck magazine) have the SRT-10 running 13.6-13.8 in the 1/4. That isn't any better than a stock Lightning. Part of that is due to the Dodge being heavier and I'm sure the standard transmission doesn't help much either.
I'm licking my chops at the opportunity to catch some bracket action against an SRT-10. That truck is going to be a biotch to dial in.
for sure the Lightning right now is the fastest truck for sure and the sr-pee 10 will be out in november if the Dodge sr-pee 10 is a fast truck it will be at top for 3 to 4 month"s be cuzz the new lightning will be out ! in may Dodge Dodge Dodge

I really can't believe you guys even try to compare the SS to either one of those trucks. First of all, go for the simple principle of capacities, the SS can carry 5 full size people in relative comfort, the Lightning and SRT-10 could carry 2, 3 would honestly be a joke. Secondly, look at towing capabilities, the SS out pulls the Lihgtning by 2500 pounds, which for me is the difference between whether my boat leaves my yard or not. So how can you really call the lightning a true truck when all it exhibits are characteristics of a sports car: negligible towing, zero occupancy. Just go buy a Cobra and call it good. And think about the price, for 6 grand more, you get 3 more people, 2500 more lbs of trailering AND an engine that is far, far more capable of massive amounts of power, remember the SS is still N/A, and with a 5K Magnacharger kit, the SS will be blasting the lightning left and right and you have nothing left to do to the lightning, except for NOS, so here comes the simple proverd: more displacement = more power and it will always be that a way. No matter what you do to a 5.4L, a 6.0L will always outdo it in the same situation. I dunno about you, but I'd rather have a truck that IS a truck, not some gussied up ultra-light duty toy truck.
Remember people won't be buying a sports truck for pulling. If you want a puller get a F-250 Diesel. I bet your boat would bog that SS down more than it would a Lightning. You're thinking of the suspension aspect, which is a valid argument, but remember someone who will be pulling something more than likely is not going to buy a sports truck and as far as power is concerned, the SS is a sad attempt. I would love to see an SS in a truck pull, I don't believe that 2500lb difference would matter much then. It'd probably do the same thing the Silverado HD did last week at the local pull, break it's driveshaft or something else essential.
Lets see one run, they sound good on paper
but thays why you race. When they come out
we will see
I loved my V-10 2500 till the paint started to peel off
and trans started acting up at 60K, so I went with the Lightning
no regrets so far.
Bring on the viper truck and the lightnings will line up to race it.

Chevrolet invites people to make the comparison by labeling their truck as an "SS". The "SS" badging is supposed to signify "something special" and in the case of their bloated pickup, they've come up waaaaaay short of the competition in the performance category. Maybe a more fair comparison for the SS would be to the Ford/Harley-Davidson F-150 which seats four and has a higher tow rating and payload capacity? However, the Chevy owner would get his a$$ handed to him in a race with the H-D too.
Styling on GM's finest leaves much to be desired as well. Would you really pay $45K+ for an Avalanche? That thing is butt-ugly. And why they chose to use the Avalanche front end on their SS truck line is beyond me.
Thanks, but the Lightning is by far the biggest bang for the buck in the "Super Sport" truck class.
I do believe also that the SS is unibody, and someone correct me if I'm wrong. If this is true, then towing with it wouldn't be exactly like towing with a regular truck.

^^ consider yourself corrected, all of these trucks are body on frame constructed
BTW, Lightning Rod is all over this! Best I have seen in all the rags is that the srt-10 prototypes (not expected in the showrooms till mid December so actually y'all are including a yet not available truck in your comparo) can only manage 13.6 - 13.8 second 1/4 mile times and tops out in the low 150's
an '03 Lightning (stock) will easily post 13.6 second 1/4 mile times and top out at mid 150's
The lightning also has the advantage of being availible RIGHT NOW at a Ford dealer near you (in the low $30k before you haggle out your best deal!) while the dodge is yet an unavailable 'dream' expected to carry an msrp of $50k-$60k
as for the cheby ss, it does not even belong in the Lightnings company . . . a F150 HD owner will easily hand the ss driver his **** . . . for that matter. At 1st I couldn't believe that cheby would put an ss badge on such a poser but then just the fact that some of you would mention it as 'competion' for an L proves that gm marketing guys know what they are doing, lol
