opinions on this setup PLEASE

ok guys here goes. I'm doing frame off resto mod on grandpa's 1979 f250 4x4. Here is my setup I 'm wanting to go with. Tmeyer is building my 400 engine to around 400hp
. "The build"
400hp 400, 4spd np435, 205 transfer case, 3.54 gears, and 35" tires with a 4" lift dana 60's front and back. This truck will be retired to a cruiser not really pulling anything except itself and the 35's. Will this be a good setup? it should cruise down hwy nice. I'm a little concerned about low end grunt and starting at stop sign. Should I be?
thanks guys I reallybenjoy this site and the reading.

Mike

The only thing i would change is the gear ratios. Personally I would go with4.10s less stress on the drive train. Your 3.54s would do well with33's

I've got the same gears on 33 tires.
I drive stop and go garbage traffic in LA all the time although with a stock old engine. Works fine. 1st gear sometimes to take it easy on the drive train.
Just dropped in a 411 hp 500+ ft lbs 441 in.
Will advise, but see no probs except to the little dweeb Prius drivers who are getting my exhaust in their window.

I would think that with 400hp 3.54s would be fine. You would probably never need or use all the 400hp or the greater amount of torque with 4.10s just cruising through town or going down the highway

Your buddies have legit 400hp? I'm usually all for lower gears but I'm thinking of a friend of mine with a 150, mild 390, 3.54 gears and 35s and he loves it. My 250 with 35s and a near stock 351w needs the 4:10s it has but with another 200hp I would go with a little higher gear. For the OP, if you already have the 3.54s, run em. If you dont like it, you can always change it

I had 35"s with 3.54's and a 428/4spd........Im guessing judging by how the engine pulled, i was probably sitting around 300 hp, certainly nowhere near 400 hp, and it did fine.....

My 77 4x4 "Sid" has the 351Measly .030 over, Edelbrock 4bbl intake, 600cfm, NP435/NP205 and 3.50 cogs with 33" tires,,, he is a sloth-dog or dog-sloth, pick one. Of course I am no where near 400hp, so that may make a happy difference, but usually if I run 35's I go with 4.10's, I will be going to 4.10's in Sid at some point in time (when $$ permits!)
If you have the 3.54's already in it, once your done, drive it and see. It may be happy...

Did you go with aftermarket cam and timing chain? If not that's part of why its a dog. The low compression pistons that come in rebuild kits don't help either.
Tmeyer has all the tips tricks and parts to make the 351M and 400 torque monsters.

You should be perfectly fine. I have a 79 f250 4x4 crewcab, stock 400 2 barrel holley carb, t19, np205, with 35" tires and 3.54 gears. I have no problem with power.

My '77 F-150 4x4 302HO NP435 with 3.54s is fine with the gearing. It also has a fresh build dynoed at 260HP.

Well sounds like I'll go with the 3.54's. I have 2 sets of axles. 1 set rear dana 60 and front dana 44 with 4.10's, but the rear 4.10's are trashed. The other set of axles has dana 60's front and back and 3.54 gears. The ring and pinions are in really nice shape, not to mention the very sought after d60 front. This set of axles also has factory sway bars front and back. Thanks for all the comments and opinions.
