This is one of those "they all do that" questions:
The 99 F-250 SuperCab (V-10 Auto) that I'm looking at has a transmission oddity. When taken from part to drive there is a pause before the truck will move. I was told "they all do that." It has been doing that for 20,000+ miles. It hasn't gotten worse, it hasn't gotten better. It's been to the dealer twice (paperwork to prove it), and the dealer could not find the problem. Is this common? How worried should I be? Is this a deal-breaker? Do they all (or many) do that?
according to my mechanic the boys at the factory have programed a five second delay into the shtift pattern to protect it from the change of torque, and load. mine has only 25000 miles on it ,and has done this since day one.

May be a safety from going between forward and reverse and vice-versa. I know our fire trucks are programmed this way.
Gives time to make sure truck is not still rolling.
