1989 E4OD issues again

I had my transmission rebuilt about 8 months ago. Since that time it has been back at least 8 times. You name it, it has been done. The man even changed cases to see if it helped.

The truck seems to have a slushy shift and slips when downshifting. The solenoid and torque converter have been replaced a few times. The transmission seems to shift very early into overdrive. I have locked the converter out at the button and had no real change in shift.

The other day I lost power going up a bridge. I locked out the converter and had no change in acceleration. I then dropped it manually into second. It took a few seconds and responded. When I stopped five minutes later, the cab filled with smoke through the air vents.

With the windows down and accelerating, the transmission starts to whir. I got it home and parked it.

Can I go with a newer E4OD and swap tail shafts to keep my mechanical speedometer?

I have no ideas left to do.

Did the shop that rebuilt give you a warranty for a certain time? I had the aod rebuilt in my old f150 ad it came with one year warranty with options to buy more years. Reason I ask, they should be fixing it! At this point you should be telling him enough is enough get me a jasper ad you keep this one. Just saying...

The man has tried his heart out. He is now looking for a replacement for me.

I have searched and read so much on the net over the past few months that i can not remember all the helpful responses to others. It seems like the 89 model was very weak and that the 95 was the best. Can I run a 95 era trans in my 89 if I use my tailshaft for the speedo?
