does anybody know why ford and other truck manufacturers don't paint there drivelines, my truck only has 10000 miles and my driveline is rusted pretty bad and I live in the desert.
If you could design paint that'll withstand the heat and abuse that your driveline sees, underneath your truck, for less than $200/gallon, you'd probably be a very rich man.
It's just not very practical. Nothing out there right now is going to stand up to that kind of abuse for any length of time.
The rust that's on there is pretty inconsequential really. Other than the appearance, it has no negative impact on the truck whatsoever.
semi trucks have been painting drivelines for ever. you could spray krylon on it and it'll hold up. the heat shouldnt be a problem if you can paint an engine block. im not exactly a rock crawler so its probably not going to get scraped off.
As Waxy said, the corrosion is minimal. It is only surface and it will not penetrate the material. I've seen people paint their driveshaft, and 2 weeks laters, it looks worse because the debris from the road had knicked and scratched the paint off in places and it just looks horrible.
If you want to spend the time doing that, that's your choice. I would use a high temp, 600* or so paint, just to be safe, but it is probably uneeded. You can also clickHERE or look up Por 27?? paint. They are supposed to be harder than regular paint and seal the corrosion.
POR 15 is what you are referring to.
I would just paint it with a good semi-gloss black paint (krylon or rust-o-leum)
Either one works great.
Don't go crazy with the paint! Just coat it lightly. (maintain balance)

One of the few pieces rust isn't going to hurt Baron. If your not concerned about scuffing it up on the trail get it powdercoated. Tougher than paint and looks alot better.
