Travelling, I've seen diesel called several names. I assume they are all mostly safe for my truck. For example, Sheetz has the diesel pump labeled as 'Auto Diesel.'
Tom's Truck stop has a B85 diesel pump out front, and apparently regular diesel pumps out back that it called truck diesel.
All will do the same job, yes? Had my fifth wheel on the road and didn't want to chance the B85, though assume it is fine with the 6.7 (didn't need any surprises with 7 1/2 tons behind me).
I like that the Tom's pump out back offered to sell me truck diesel, reefer (), and DEF all in the same transaction.
Be careful, all of the big 3 currently only certify their diesels up to B20 compliance (20% mix of Biodiesel). B85 would be a bit much. Biodiesel has "Solvent" qualities and can really mess up seals that weren't designed to handle it.
Auto diesel and truck diesel are the same. Pumps marked "auto" have a smaller low pressure nozzle. "Truck" pumps will have a larger nozzle and higher pressure so they can pump 100 to 200 gal of fuel in a reasonable time. "Reffer" (or "off-road") diesel does not have a road tax on it. Do not use it...if you get caught it is a BIG fine. Most truck stops will have a DEF pump on the island with their diesel pumps. Cars and p/u can buy the blue jugs. (fed gas tax is 18.4 cents/gal, diesel is 24.4 cents/gal)
I think if you look in your manual it will say that it is ok to use up to B20 in your truck.
Is Diesel fuel actually taxed MORE than Gasoline in the USA?
I believe Canadian federal tax on gas is $0.10/L and Diesel is $0.04/L. Of course you guys are still lower cost overall for the same amount of product, but relatively speaking...
Another thing I look for when fueling, is there a tanker filling the underground tanks at the time. I have been told that you should not fuel while they are filling the tanks due to the agitation that goes on as the new fuel is dumped into the storage tanks.

It varies by state, but as a rule, yes. Diesel (24.4 cents/gallon by Feds) is taxed at a higher rate than gasoline (18.4 cents/gallon by Feds). See the Wiki page

Correct. they dump at such a high rate it will stir up the sediment of the bottom.
