Front Brake Drum Question
I'm in the process of rebuilding the front drum brakes on my '66 F100. My drums are shot so need to remove the hubs from the drums. It appears that I need to purchase a carbide "stud-off cutter " tool to grind off the swaged stud shoulders. Once the stud shoulders are ground off, the hub should be removable. I'll then need to press the new studs into the hub using a "stud guide tool" and swage or peen the new stud shoulders to the new drum.
I've done a lot of brake jobs but this is my first requiring this process. My two questions are; is the process as straight forward as it sounds and who carries the special tools?

This may sound strange but you may have the hub centered perfectly when you are trying to press it out. On my 64 when I was changing shoes, I set mine in the sun and next thing I know there was a loud clang. Scared the heck out of me until I realized the hubs were removable. Look at using a hydralic press to assist in removing the hub. Remember you have a few years of rust holding them together. Just put it stud side up on the press and work it until the hub is forced out. Unless I am totally jacked up. Anyone else?

Front Brake Drum Question
Bring the hub drum Assembly to a truck clutch and brake shop. They'll have a ring to if in side the drum just around the hub and press it out. If you don't use the ring it's easy to bend the drum when pressing the new one on. Trust me I used to work at a shop and loved to se guys come in with bent drums for me to work on. Drums are not cheap as you'll find out. We charged $10 to press off and and on plus the cost of the drum if needed.
