OK Guys, I want to replace my rear differential cover with one that has a drain hole towards the bottom. My truck is a 96 3/4 4x4 5 speed 7.3. The cover has 12 bolts in it and has a door axle code of C5. I going to "pick a part" pretty quick so I would like to know what other year trucks would interchange that have lower drain hole? If you guys can give me a year range I would appreciate it.
No drain plug on it but you can put one on and it's off an 08, iirc. It's finned, aluminum and thus far has worked well on my sig truck. You just need longer bolts and some RTV.
Yes, it bolts right on, you just need longer bolts like JCart said. I paid $45 from my dealer
I ended up using 5/16" X 1 1/2" Grade 8 bolts w 1/4 flat washers and 5/16 lock washers. I wanted to use 1 1/4 bolts but could find any
You can also drill and tap the cover to put a drain plug in it
I have similar one as Brad..But it has a Drain plug...My nieghbor gave it to me since the Steering assembly on his 07 F350 would hit the fins when he plowed...( he had it on the Front Diff ) so He gave it to me ....I could ask where he got it ...

But you have a Dana 60 or 70. So they are not the same as a Sterling cover
Why worry about a drain plug? If a guy services the diff every 100k with syn like recommended....I want to pull the cover and clean the crud out of the bottom and do an inspection..I personally could not give a darn less for a drain.that does nothing for a good service imo ...but what do I know
I with you Aaron. It doesn't take a very big drain pan to not make a mess and the cover should be coming off for inspection anyway. A drain plug in the E4OD pan, now that's a whole other fat chick(no comments please bill )
