If it was bought used there's a possibility that the dealer replaced the grille if it had some damage. They could have replaced it with a "crash parts" type of grille to save a few bucks. Then again, it is still totally possible for an OE grille to do that, its just usually their chroming process yields a longer lasting product.
My original grille looks the exact same, just some of the bumps have very small rock holes. I used to be able to slide my thumb up them and see water come out. The logo is completely delaminated and nasty looking. I put the RH on and haven't really cared since.
Even without the presence of much salt, I've still got small rust spots on the bottom right corner of my driver side and bottom left corner of my passenger side window. From what I understand, this is fairly common. I bought my truck used and it has been there since day one.
As for the grille, that doesn't look good. Luckily, I've got the black XL one, but I agree, it appears comparable to aftermarket quality.
Not going to worry about the grill even if its ugly and for now I've fluid filmed the rust to prevent more and will fix when winter ends. The step bars look like hell too but I thought I've read a Brillo or something like it helps remove the "spots" on the chrome.

I thought you weren't driving your truck in the salt, that's why you said you got the beater car..
look in the furniture finishing section of the hardware store for steel wool #0000. I've used it on my older cars' chrome bumpers for years. My only fear would be the quality of the newer nerf bar coatings.
Hmmmm. I've got the rust spots on the bottom corners of my windows as well. Just figured I got one with a bad paint job in those spots but I guess not. I was going to get those fixed in the next month or so as well.

Yea that was my plan. Problem is that there have been a lot of days with mucho snow that my car wouldn't have worked. Plus I've been riding on a bad front wheel bearing in the car that I think just grenaded itself yesterday. So the truck is seeing more winter than I'd like. I did however coat it in Fluid Film which is doing a great job. Sucks to not be able to park it this year but it is what it is.
