HELP! firing order question

ok, so somehow the Chilton and Haynes books ended up in storage while we were cleaning. 90 ranger with 2.9l. where is number 1 on the cap, not marked on old cap or new one? what is firing order? I am assuming cylinders are numbered usual ford fashion 123 on passenger 456 on driver

The distributor rotor turns CLOCKWISE

The distributor cap is installed with the marked # 1 position facing towards the firewall and slightly towards the passenger side

The engine cylinders / spark plugs are numbered : passenger side of engine , front to rear , 1 , 2 , 3 and drivers side of engine , front to rear , 4 , 5 , 6

used to be the caps would only fit one way, since dont have a veh with caps anymore cant tell. So if not marked I guess just go with the one that is fitting the description of the directions for location. Remember when they used to show the hold down clips for locating #1?

If all elese fails pull the plugs and turn the engine until #1 cyl is up in firing position and look where the rotor points, them mark with magic marker or paint.

late post, that diagram showed me that I was rotating the wrong way around the dist with plug wires........

so, I replaced TFI mod, ran for 30 min, then back to same. next changed coil, plugs, and wires, hmmmm not running on all 6, lets ck the ol interweb! AHA!
