suppose i was to add a 1/2 lb of r 134a into my r 12 system, what besides not being legal could happen to the ac system and what are the chances of these things happening?
The two are not compatible, and could cause damage to your system.

Here is an answer to your question I found on an A/C board:
"The final reaction would be a new compressor, drier/accumulator and a whole lot more work. R134a doesn't carry the mineral oil, so the compressor will starve and burn up causing the debris from the piston rings to travel thru the system, clogging the other parts".
