4.2L redline
I currently own a 2001 Ford F-150 with the 4.2L engine. The tachometer has no redline and goes up to 6,000 rpms. I occassionally turn 5000-5500 which seems to be a lot compared to my Jeep (5.2L 318 V8) which doesn't turn anything close to the redline. Is it ok to turn over 5000 being that the tachometer and book don't mention anything about redlining the engine? Also, the engine has 46,000 miles on it. I have become somewhat nervous seeing many other posts about blown 4.2L's. Does anyone know how well the 2001 4.2L was built? Thanks.

Welsome to FTE and the 4.2 forum. There is a lot of good info here. Browse down the thread listing here and you'll find various threads addressing your questions.
Here's one to start with

Again, welcome!
edit to add: I have a 2000 w/ 95,000 miles. Perfect so far. I'd not give any worry to the issues (gaskets) you might read or hear about dealing with the first few years of mfg. I believe all those had been solved prior to 2000.
There's lots of info here on the subject. Just start digging around...you'll find it!
