[updated:LAST EDITED ON 06-Jun-02 AT 06:52 PM (EST)]Before I run out and buy a chilton manual( which usually are'nt worth much in specific info) thought I would ask here. Son-in-law needs to remove the auto trannie first out of a 90 Aerostar van.
Second removing the v6 engine. What I would like to know from the gurus here when removing the trannie what are some things to look out for. Im sure it will unbolt and drop out under the van, right.
Now how does the engine come out? From under? I have an engine lift and floor jack to use. How would you do it without using a stall/lift and working on it in a carport?
Thanks
I replaced the 4.0 engine on my mothers 90 aerostar bout a year ago. Everybody says it has to come out the bottom, even the shop manuals. Well we didnt do it that way. It is possible to remove the front bumper and enough of the brackets/frame in front of the radiator to remove the engine out the front. We removed the upper intake manifold and got the hoist close enough to the engine with a little hoist modification, that the oil pan did not even have to be removed and it still fit out the front. I can tell you it is a billion times easier to do it this way if you dont have a lift. We even left teh tranny in the vehicle, just unbolted it.
