FYI the 460 ceased after 96, replaced with the modular engines, 4.6 V8,5.4 V8, and 6.8 V10, the only engine that continued service was the 7.3 powerstroke.
But I have a 97 e350 with the 460. It's a 460, I'm certain it's a 460, and it's titled as a 1997. I don't know the full history of Ford and when they stopped making the FE engines, I'll admit that, but I knows what I gots, and I gots a 97 with a 460. Bummer about the tuners, but I'll live.
Warren you seem to have an oddball E350 since its titled as a '97 but has the 460. Anything is possible when it comes to titles vs actual build dates. A bit off-topic but my (supposed) '84 Pontiac Parisenne is legally '84 but sourcing parts requires me to say its an '83. PO said it was an '84, manufacturer says its an '84 but parts need to be from an '83---go figure.
Do you happen to have any photos of that motor stuffed into your E350? That might be more than interesting to a few of us here.

I took the doghouse off when I got it for cleaning and inspection, but didn't take any pics. I'll have to do that now. Front under hood shots won't do too much with the air cleaner ducting blocking everything. I don't recall off the top of my head so does anyone know if there are any identifying covers, labels, or anything when I pop the hood that would indicate engine displacement? Man, now I have to run outside and check.
OK, under the hood the view is mostly blocked by the air cleaner ductwork. But, there's a sticker that says 7.5L DRIVE BELT INSTALLATION with a diagram. I can post it if you need to see it.

Well, when I first got it I changed the oil, and did so assuming it was a 7.5. I'd be concerned if I'm maintaining some other engine as if it was a 7.5. Also up the thread I was told I can't actually have a 97 with a 7.5l, and I already knew I do. I am the first one to admit when I'm mistaken, but I get irked when told I'm wrong from 1,000 miles when I know I'm right and can see it with my own eyes.

No worries, and never an internet grudge from me. I was just surprised to hear that the 460 is an oddball in my 97.
Now, with this being the case, why do I have the 460? Was it a special order, an early 97 build, a mistake, any clue? How would I find out?

My WAG would be it was an early production, probably really a '96 but completed after the annual plant shut down for retooling that happens in July or August---historically anyway.

OK thanks. I never realized I had an odd duck when I bought this thing. I'm actually glad it's a 350 and has the 460. I've had that engine in Marquis and other Fords I've had and it's always been a good, if not extremely heavy, engine.
Your van looks like it is a conversion. What likely happened is that it is actually a 96 model that was sent to a conversion place and was actually titled and sold as a 97. This happens with RVs and Cab Chassis type vehicles alot.
The title is issued based on the completed vehicle.

It's a conversion, correct. Hmm, so it could have sat at the conversion company for some time prior to being finished? That wouldn't change the build date Ford stamps on the door right? I need to go out and look at that.
The build date on the door is what it is from Ford. The conversion companies will buy a whole train load at a time. I think you have a van from 96 that was completed by the conversion company in 97.
All 460's have the unique 2 inch Heaterhose connecting the Waterpump to the Intake since they have a wet Intake like the 302/351W and not the Dry Intake like the 351m/400....That is the simple way to check it .......
