Well due to the width of the intake manifold, the lower bolt on the upper water port, and the fuel pump, I've think I have a 351W.
However, I looked all around, crawled underneath as well as using an inspection mirror, but I cant find any casting numbers. Would I have to pull the starter to see them?
Is there any way to narrow down to maybe a decade the motor was built in. Mainly trying to figure out what parts to get for a tune-up.
You really need the casting number which is down by the starter. I'm not sure if the starter is in the way, but I can look tonight for the specific location. I have a 351w sitting on a stand in the garage.
You're right.. nothing specific as to application, but the casting number along with the date code would be a good start. The only person that knows for sure would be the guy that removed the engine.
Well the spark plugs take a 13/16 socket, so I guess at least the heads are pre 77. Wonder if someone rebuilt the engine and mixed years, since the heads seem to be pre 77 but the dizzy seems to be post 77.
The casting number and date code on my E9AE block is on a flat spot facing straight down. The starter is not mounted so I'm not sure if it would be in the way, but the only way to see the number is to look straight up from the bottom.
Here's a picture that I had found elsewhere some time back..
