Guess This Engine

I was told that this is a 351C with a C6 pulled from a car. However, after doing some looking, I don't think its a 351C.

Any ideas on what it may be? I plan on getting an inspection mirror and trying to find the casting numbers tonight when I get home.

Its either a 302 or 351w, to tell look at the firing order on the manifold.

6 valve cover bolts per side: 1962/63 221 / 1962/65 260 / 1963/68 289 / 1968/96 302 / 1969/96 351W

C6 has 17 trans pan bolt holes. This engine has the dizzy first used in 1977.

According to the VIN, codes stamped on the Warranty Plate, this 1966 F100 Custom Cab originally came w/a 352 2V and 3 M/T.

Well due to the width of the intake manifold, the lower bolt on the upper water port, and the fuel pump, I've think I have a 351W.

However, I looked all around, crawled underneath as well as using an inspection mirror, but I cant find any casting numbers. Would I have to pull the starter to see them?

Is there any way to narrow down to maybe a decade the motor was built in. Mainly trying to figure out what parts to get for a tune-up.

Thanks,
Richard

Bill, so from the "Dizzy" you would say that the motor is at least a 1977 or newer?

I can't find any casting numbers, is there a way to narrow that down, maybe looking at other parts on the motor and getting their part numbers?

You really need the casting number which is down by the starter. I'm not sure if the starter is in the way, but I can look tonight for the specific location. I have a 351w sitting on a stand in the garage.

Once the OP posts the casting number, then what?

Casting numbers cannot be cross referenced to Ford part numbers.

You're right.. nothing specific as to application, but the casting number along with the date code would be a good start. The only person that knows for sure would be the guy that removed the engine.

Well the spark plugs take a 13/16 socket, so I guess at least the heads are pre 77. Wonder if someone rebuilt the engine and mixed years, since the heads seem to be pre 77 but the dizzy seems to be post 77.

The casting number and date code on my E9AE block is on a flat spot facing straight down. The starter is not mounted so I'm not sure if it would be in the way, but the only way to see the number is to look straight up from the bottom.

Here's a picture that I had found elsewhere some time back..
