Replacing hyroboost question

Since the hydrobooster on my '04 F350 is leaking like a sieve I need to replace it. This seems like a pretty straight forward replacement. Purge fluids, disconnect hydroboost from master cylinder, move master cylinder out of the way, remove and replace booster, reconnect to master cylinder, refill fluids and purge air. Any tips or tricks I need to know to or any pitfalls/problems anyone else has run into would be appreciated. I looked in the tech folder and didn't see anything about this replacement.

Thanks.
Greg

You've about got it....the only thing I'd change is to not purge the fluids. The less air bubbles you have to worry about later the happier you're going to be. If you're worried about dirty fluid ruining the new part, do a thorough flush, then replace the hydroboost. It's really not even that messy to do it with fluid still in-system since the hydroboost is above the p/s fluid reservoir, and nothing's under high pressure in that area when not running. Good luck!

Thanks. I meant to say do a partial drain of the P/S fluid not a full purge. With as bad as it's leaking right now I doubt what is in there is dirty, since I've had to add about 2 quarts in the last two weeks, but it will get flushed out just the same. I get the part tomorrow and should be doing the install this weekend or earlier. I will post how it all goes.

227K miles with about half of them pulling heavy loads is not a bad run for the factory hydroboost.

No need to bleed the brake system?

Purging air in the OP included P/S fluid and brakes/master cylinder. I think I'm just going to flush all the brake fluid anyway since it's almost due anyway.

Hydroboost replaced and P/S fluid flushed. No snags with the replacement. No tips to add for anyone else doing the job other than to find someone small to unbolt the booster from under the dashboard. That spot is not made for big people.
