dont heat them heat the housing around them with a acytlene torch get a big hammer and a piece of BRASS the size or a little smaller than the King pin get the housing cherry hot and hit the BRASS pipe with the BFH and they will come out why BRASS keeps fron MUSHROOMING the king pin.

I also had to use heat to get mine out. The next time will be much easier thanks to grease.

They make King Pin presses that are used by big shops. Heating metal parts removes the heat treatment in the parts and can leave them either soft or brittle. High heat should never be used on steering and suspension parts. This is a tough job and should not be attempted by novices, -take the idiot beams out and take them to a shop.

I agree with Eric. Unless you use the nylon bushings you will have to hone the new ones to size anyway.

I rigged my own press using a bottle jack and heavy chain. I used large nuts between the jack and the pin. The nut OD was just smaller than the pin. I applied pressure with the jack and waited for it to move. It took nearly 10 minutes for the first motion to occur, but after that it went faster. Just keep adding nuts to the top of the jack as the pin comes out. I have used this technique on farm tractors as well.

That can be dangerous if something slips... You could lose your head, or arm, or hand, or your kid's arm...

I make it a policy to not allow kids under vehicles I am working on. The only thing that needs to be touched when doing this is the jack handle, so you can remain back from the vehicle while jacking.

Parts, tools and equipment can be propelled at great velocities over long distances when something like this slips. Someone 30 yards away is not safe.
