-17 degrees here in northern Il this morning. My 05 f- 250 started right up this morning, but soon shut down. Im assuming fuel is gelled. I added the deisel 911 and waited about 20 min. Again she started up, but quickly shut down. What else can I do? I dont have access to a heated garage to try and let her thaw.
x2 on pulling the filter and looking. I had everyone telling me I had fuel gelling one winter when it was a totally different issue altogether. Easier to pinpoint the problem right of the bat instead of assuming.
The big problen with Illinios deseil is the they mandated bio-deseil an it jells at a higher temp. solids turn to solids at lower temps but you can't tell that to your local tree huggers in legislation . Bio-desiel cost more just like ethanol blended fuel an both have their own problems resulting from the blends. 911 and get some powerservice and put it in a every fill-up. Also pull your upper fuel filter and pour some 911 in their and give it some time to work through you system and if you can find some where that sells keroseen add that to you tank ( 2 gallons should do it ) it will also lower your jell temp Had to do the same ting to my class 8 tractor the other day
Did you check the filter to see whether gelling is actually your problem?
placed a 100 watt bulb next to the lower filter for 2 hrs. She started up rough and died a few minutes later. Gonna go out now and check the upper filter.......Would she even start if it was gelling?
Just checked upper filter and didn't notice any gelling there. Put filter back in and she fired right up, but soon starved and died...... what now?...please dont tell me I have to pull the lower filter. Not it the mood for a deisel bath.
You need to pull the lower filter. If you keep trying to crank it like that you are going to run the risk of damaging your injectors. Pull it out and look at it. If not jelled put it back in or better yet change it. Turn key to run not start and see if your upper fuel bowl fills up quickly. You will have to pull the upper one to see if it does. Diesel dont smell that bad. My three year old daughter loves the smell.
I like the propane weedburner and chimney stack the best..
if you shovel a clear spot before parking, (or emplace by driving over)
works well if you are hunting in cold AO's and don't want to expend the fuel with an autostart programed to run off engine bay temps....
I really don't like using kerosene in my 6.0...
have heard to many horror stories about lack of lube...
good luck,
Chris
notice I didn't mention any of the swing type heaters??
expensive, and most run off vehicle batteries... get your vehicle warmed up- then can't start due to dead batteries
You shouldn't have to change the filters is gelling is your only problem, once the fuel warms back up it will reconstitute into fuel.
Once you get it running just let it idle, no load for a while to warm the fuel tank via your return fuel.
It makes it tougher if you cannot get it inside somewhere, you need patience here to get everything warmed up, maybe a tarp around the bottom of the truck to help hold the heat in.

Got her running. Let her get up to 188 and took her for a little spin. She seemed ok. 100 watt light bulb on the hfcm seemed to do the trick....... Now we will have to see how she does in the morning.....THANKS TO ALL FOR THE HELP.
