I had already posted about a whining noise, thought it was my power steering pump, but it wasn't, I've replaced pump, and both idler pulley's. still no change. the sound originally started at random, and actually right after I installed a leveling kit. I took some video, and regardless of being in drive, or park, or neutral, or speed it still makes the whine, it gets louder with RPM's only. steering back and forth does not effect the the whining noise. HELP, Dealer wanted 230$ to diangose, which I think is crappy, so I'm taking another jab at this, hints why I'm including video's this time.
one video is in park, the other is while driving, and hitting a few speed bumps.
do you have the single or dual alternator setup? i could see it being one of them causing the noise. if you can use a long screwdriver and safely hold it on the case of the alternator and put your ear on the handle end to see if it sounds noisy. if the noise is noticeable at idle you could take the belt of and just start it very briefly to see if the noise is still there or not at least then you know if its drive belt related or not.
I have the single alternator. I haven't tried the screw driver yet, my next thought and recommendations were the tensioner pulley. It doesn't really sound like a pulley bearing going out. It's a whine ya know?
customer complaining of loud belt squeal noise on accel. this noise gets louder the harder you accelerate. noise is the result of an exhaust leak at right (passenger)exhaust manifold . rear exhaust manifold bolts broken at cylinder head . this engine uses a laminated (multi layer steel gasket) which makes noise when exhaust leaks between layers. this is the second one we have seen in 3 months . nothing wrong with the belts or tensioners . we removed broken bolts ,replaced bolts/studs and gasket on the right bank. checked manifold for straightness with flat edge . another happy customer

Have a loud screeching, whining noise, sounding like a failed turbo or a brake rotor being machined without silencers on it. Happens when hot and under turbo boost. Noise coming from turbo area on right side rear of engine.
Inspect the flex pipe(s) from the exhaust manifold(s) that leads to the turbo for leaking and replace as neede
None of those sounds like it even could be the noise I'm hearing. It's sounds just like a steering pump, but it's not that. It's got to be something that's belt driven.
spole with a machanic at a small shop the other day, he listened to the whine, and said that it sounded like it was coming from the front of the transmission. He said that there is a pump in the front of the tranny that is connected to the torqe converter and fly wheel, so the more or less RPM's are going to directly effect the *front pump in the tranny. Shfts have seemed to be fine, fluid is red and does not smell burnt, and I'm not sure how me putting a 3" level in would have anything to do with a transmission pump. any body have any knowledge on the transmission, as I have very little to NO knowledge on tranmissions. Thanks.
just made this post on a different forum s I figured I would copy to all of the other threads I have going on different sights.
I just replaced the pump a few weeks ago and no change, and before that I had flushed the fluid... Nothing changed... Replaced the two idler pulleys and no change... I'm not 100% sure that it's belt driven but that's what it sure seems like to me, haven't tried it with out the belt on yet but I'm thinking about it, just to see if the noise goes away or not. A local shop took a quick look and said to him it sounded like it was coming from the tranny like it was the tranny pump.... Not sure though, tranny seems fine, shifts and rides fines and temps are good... However I did just check the fluid and its cold right now, I pulled the dip stick out and it's slightly over the high hot mark... WTF? So i checked a few more times and same thing.. It's high hot when it's actually cold ... An idea? Not sure why it's high but could high fluid cause a whine noise from the pump? I don't know a whole lot about trannies
