So I want to put new tires on my truck, 2013 F350, CC, Lariat, 6.7 powerstroke, snow plow prep, 3.55 gears. Current tires are 275/65/20 Michelins that came stock. Truck is used to tow a gooseneck all year (aprox15000lbs), and plow in the winter. I want a nice over-sized aggressive looking tire, but don't want to do any leveling or lifting cause i don't know much about it, and worried it will wear out the truck faster, and will mess up the height of my plow mount. I have the upgraded 20" chrome clad cast aluminum rims, and don't want to replace them. I really like the 325/60/20 duratracs, but i don't know if it will fit on my truck without doing a lift or level. Also looking at the Mickey thompson baja atz p3's in 35/12.5/20. I am pretty sure the baja's will fit my truck stock, but I like the duratracs more because they are a winter rated tire, and are proven to last forever and handle towing easily. Anyone know if the duratracs will fit??
Thanks, and sorry to ask another tire question, I,ve been searching online all day for answers!
Ps- I realize duratracs come in the same size as my factory tires, but really want to go a little bigger.
Thanks for the link! Looks interesting, but it will not allow me to enter my 20" rims, nor does it show the size dutatracs that I'm looking for. Maybe I'm not doing it right?
I just did enter the 325/60/20 in the tire size. The rim size is the width and the backset. You can only enter metric sizes, but you can look at the 325/60/20 and see from the diagram that it is 35.4 inches tall, 10 inches wide at the tread and 12.8 inches wide overall.
A 35 nor the 325/60 will tuck without a level or lift in the front. You will get wheel rub on both the inner fender and the front valence. You also need to consider an e rated tire if your towing your gooseneck. I believe you could get away with a 285/75/20... your best bet is to check with your local 4wd shop...also the level kit is not a bad idea and will not sacrifice your ride comfort and will allow your desired tire height
If you are towing heavy as you say, stay away from larger tires on the stock wheels. They are narrower than the tire manufacturers recommended width likely. Some will say I'm wrong and there are plenty of fellas that go ahead and have large tires on narrow stock wheels, but if you're towing heavy I'd be cautious.
I run Cooper Discoverer STT's and they have been good so far. Here is a link to my size. I might caution you about very aggressive tires like this when towing heavy...it can feel a bit squirmy sometimes. There is a lot more tread block height with wider gaps in between that cause this feeling. As for the 35" tall tires not fitting...mine fit just fine with no rubbing but they are only 12.5" wide. FWIW, my previous tires were much taller, more than an inch, even though they were listed as being 34.7" tall, and they too fit with no rubbing, lock to lock in full articulation.
I was looking at the stt's, I really like cooper tires. I had the st max on my last truck and loved them, but they don't make them in 20". The stt's aren't supposed to have great snow handling, and I heard the 2 tires I'm looking at handle towing very well for the type of tire they are.
I have never run a tire that has done any better in the snow than these STT's. I have run many all terrain and mud terrain based tread patterns in snow. As long as the tire you pick has decent tread siping for hard pack snow and ice, and good wide channels between block to bite in looser snow, you should be fine. I have heard horror stories about the Duratrac's being a nightmare to keep balanced as they wear, but most like the way they perform in the traction department. Here the ST Max in a 20" wheel is listed, but out of stock. I checked cooper's website, and a 20" size isn't listed.
