Among full-size pickup trucks on the market today, the Ford F-150 hasn't been updated as recently as its biggest rivals, the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Ram 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500. That may soon change, as many news publications expect Ford to have the next generation 2015 F-150 on display at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit later this month. Bloomberg reports that the new Ford F-150 will have a body constructed from aluminum, which will greatly reduce the truck's weight. This will in turn increase its fuel efficiency, helping Ford meet tougher fuel economy requirements and saving drivers money at the pump. Bloomberg reports that the new F-150 may approach 30 mpg on the highway. The 2014 F-150 tops out at an EPA-estimated 23 mpg highway, and the most fuel-efficient full-size truck on the market is the 2014 Ram 1500 HFE, which is rated at 25 mpg highway. The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra both get up to 24 mpg highway. 2014 Ford F-150 (Ford Motor Company)
There may be challenges associated with an aluminum-bodied pickup. Jalopnik says that Ford will have to convince buyers that aluminum body panels will be as durable as their steel counterparts. However, the site expects some of these concerns to be alleviated by the fact that Ford's aluminum supplier is Alcoa Inc., which also supplies aluminum for the military.
Ford may also be refreshing its engine offerings as well. Publications including Autoblog are reporting that the next F-150 may get a new twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine that could also contribute to fuel economy gains. Autoblog expects the new 2.7-liter EcoBoost engine will supplement, rather than replace, the V6, V8s or 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engines already powering the F-150.
Sources including Car and Driver hope that the next F-150 will borrow design cues from the Ford Atlas concept, which debuted last year at the Detroit Auto Show.

Mine ran great until it started falling apart at 145k. Mom said time to go, $8k in a year I couldn't blame her. Sorry for the de-rail. That new F150 is very tempting, I can't wait to see one in person. That might be a problem
I like the 150 because it seems to me a number of great ideas that have been on the SD are starting to trickle down to its little brother and that will be a very big selling point IMO
I like mine because it hasn't given me a lick of trouble, and everything costs a lot less. OC is under $30 compared to $120 for my 6.0 with Rotella full syn. I like the '11-up F150 dash better but the ol' 5.4 has treated me well so far. Like I said, I'm anxious to see one in person, especially if it looks like the Atlas
Interesting to see how this is gonna pan out, I really hope the truck doesn't look like the Atlas concept, IMO it looks ugly. I also have heard rumors about the new '15 Bronco! Also I assume the new 10 speed transmissions are gonna start flooding the market, and I also wouldn't be surprised if they included an "ecodiesel" in the 150 series thanks to Rams, and Chevrolets.
One can always hope though right? I keep holding out that they will come out with a diesel for the wife's car! Either way I want to see a real picture of a completed one lol.
I was hoping for one in the new escapes, I remember when they were first coming out there was talk about a diesel, but then only the Europe models got the diesel...what's up with that ford???
You know, during my time across the pond, I saw so MANY vehicles that used diesel motors that I would guess would do great over here. One that comes to mind is a Crew Cab Ranger with the diesel motor. Another popular one was whats called a Toyota "Tata" that from just driving around Kandahar Airfield I would estimate got around 24/25 MPG.
I just cain't get to liking that Atlas front end. Lights, the way the grill is, etc., just hope Ford does something different with that. By '15, I hope to be ready to finally get a new truck!
