What the Heck Is It, Egger?

I was searching the front of my truck for my apparently non-existent block heater when I came across a mystery thing. Well, it's a mystery to me, anyway.

My tape points at its location:



Top part of thing:



Bottom part of thing:



What is that thing?

This is the one that the overhead gets its reading from correct?

Yes that is the outside temp sensor. I believe it is only for display and not computing.
