Has anyone ever rebuilt an E4OD or have a friend who is a trans builder? Trying to figure out what tools I am going to need in order to do it.. everything seems to have a link to tool sites but I really hope I don't need all of it.
I really want to get into building transmissions though especially because I have 3 that need either rebuilt or torn down and converted from 2wd to 4x4 or vice versa. It's only a difference of a few hundred between doing it myself and a shop doing it, but if I get good enough then I can rebuild junk ones for side cash.
... i've been suspecting the FPDM for a long time now, but have never been the type to throw parts at a vehicle. doing some more research i found this:
"Symptoms of a failing fuel-pump driver module all manifest in the performance of the engine. Difficulty in starting or a smoky start-up, stalling or uneven running while idling, hesitations and misses when driving, and power surges when in reverse can all -- separately or together -- be indicative of a failing module."
my symptoms are in red. so my fingers are crossed as i wait for amazon to ship me a new one.
new FPDM in... no improvement. cleared codes and cyl 8 misfire code came back pretty quick, so i think i'm just gonna go ahead and tackle the plugs. i'm assuming (hoping) they come out easy, only having 40k on them.
talked with a buddy who is a really good diagnostic guy, and he said AE doesn't do a great job of showing cylinder problems on Fords with its balance test, so maybe there is more isolated issues on cyl 8 than i thought.
on that note, does anyone have the Lisle extractor tool i can borrow to have on hand? i'd imagine they didnt put multi-piece plugs in when i bought it 3 years ago but who knows..
I'd assume Rich will use for the GTG to work the bugs out, so we all should get the chance to.

You could just get one of these, I'm sure it would solve all of your problems!
The tallow thing in the back will dig a nice sized hole to put the truck in, then a quick call to the insurance company to report it missing and then wait for the check to show up in the mail.......
