I desire to wire in a 600 watt inverter in my 2K Navi. When it comes to tinkering I like it clean and perfect. I am aware of some non switched powerpoints in the vehicle but was hoping one of the wise on this board could lend their experience.
Something tells me there is not an 'available' fifty amp cricuit to be found so I'm thinking a relay driven setup, where the relay is connected to unswitched current (B+) and the coil to a switched (On/Acc) source. Where is a switched point where I could make a clean install (wedging a wire under a fuse isn't going to get it).
Any suggestions from the masters? Also, any preference on relay brand/models?
As far as relays go, Bosch is very good. You could pull your +12 right off the battery (add a fuse of course). For a switched accesory lead, you could splice into the aux. power outlet wires. They only feed the outlets, and have seperate fuse protection at the fuse box. Make sure your grounds are clean and tight, and use the same gauge wire for the high current leads, probably 8 or 6 gauge.
Thank you. By aux. power outlet wires do you mean the lighter outlets in the dash and center console (facing rear)? I didn't think these were switched.
For that amount of power, I suggest creating your own circuits and power take off outlets, to be sure all wiring is adequate. Marine shops have all you need and it's of the best quality. Or shop online at www.westmarine.com or www.boatus.com if you don't have a store near you.

Yes, those are the ones I mean. I am pretty sure they are switched.
