I have a baseball that Joe Dimaggio signed for me when I met him at the 1991 all-star game in Toronto. I was wondering what the best way of storing it would be. Right now I have it in a clear case that is meant for baseballs, but I am worried about light fading the signature. Any suggestions? I would like to keep it in good shape, for it is personalized "To Chris bestwishes Joe Dimaggio". Not exactly something you can buy.
If you ever go to an autograph/memorabilia show they usually have vendors at the shows selling their wares. One of the things they sell are cubes for baseballs and footballs that are manufactured specifically to block the harmful rays of the sun, as opposed to the clear plexiglass ones which offer no protection whatsoever.
Either pick up a memorabilia mag at your local 7/11 or bookstore or go to a memorabilia show that is local to you to pick one up. The UV
protected cubes are going to cost you a few bucks more, but then you knew that, didn't you? You'll know you're getting the right thing, the ad and/or the box will clearly indicate they are UV-protected
to prevent sun damage.
I keep my Mickey Mantle signed ball in a holder made for a baseball and am currently storing it in a safe. I'd like to have it displayed, just nowhere to put it.
