Why do Bronco's have the following, and our trucks do not ? Just seems odd...
Hood centering bracket (located on the firewall and the back of the hood)
Hinge extensions between the hood mounting surface of the hinge
Extra rubber seals above doors
These are a few things I've noticed in looking the '78-'79's.
I'm not sure if any trucks had them but not all Broncos had them. The idea was that in a front end collision the back of the hood would peirce the cowl of the cab instead of raising up and going through windshield.
None of my trucks had the extra hood peices but both of my Broncos did.
That's ok. It's just that I keep hearing these parts were specific to broncos only and not the trucks. Well my truck has them and my bronco doesn't. So I figured I'd post pics of what I have. When I can I'll get down to were my bronco is at and get pics. showing it doesn't have them. Now I know this truck was redone at least once in it's life, so it's possible that these were added later. I don't know.
Yeah I've never seen a truck with them till now. Its always been on Broncos that I have seen them on. I'm not sure why they didn't get put on everything. I don't see anything about them in some of the options lists I have.
Yeah I'd kinda like to add these to my bronco when I restore. When I bought this truck it was the first I had even seen these parts. So I wasn't even sure what they were or if they were even factory.
The hinge pieces are between the hood and the hinge, "L" shaped brackets. If you look at our trucks, they have the dimples for the hood center pieces on the hood and the cowl. Not sure how it would stop the hood from coming into the windshield ??? The Bronco's I've seen also have an extra piece of rubber stripping on the top of the door ?
The extra peices between hood and hinge extended further back than actual hinge and they are supposed to stab through cab and keep back of hood from raising up.
That's the story I've always been told.
The extra piece of rubber on the doors are added weather stripping. Mainly I think for sound deadening. I think the Ranger XLT's and Lariat's had these on the trucks as well. As for the added hood brackets not sure. Hopefully Ranger429 or Number dummy or some one will be along shortly. Hopefully they will correct me if I'm wrong on what I stated as well.
I dont have pics of it but my 78 bronco has the guide and centering channel on the hood. I dont know what it is actually for but my 79 f150 did not have them.
I remember reading a post here where there was an add-on kit for pickups that came with a factory installed topper...there was a factory sticker indicating the various part numbers that were added...
