Hey all,
I know it has been a year since my last post but the progress has slowed to a crawl. The restoration guy has has some health issues he says. I get a text every couple of weeks with empty promises. I feel a little sick myself at this point. we're coming up on 3 years now. I don't even know what to say. I just keep hoping...

I went through something similar a few years ago. I made a huge mistake of paying the guy up front. He ran into marriage problems and got booted out of his shop. So, he told me to come get my truck. Not even "sorry". In the end I got a much better job from the second guy, but it cost me twice what it should have cost.

In your case I'd go see him. Is he actually working or is he laid up? Is he telling the truth or?

Stuff happens regardless if we like it or not. I think it's damn straight that you chimed back in to update the situation, good or not so good ! Might be time to look to someone else.

It stinks that has happened but as been said I would go check up on the truck.
1 to make sure it is still there and 2 to see if the guy is really sick and on the up n up.

Good luck

I have heard too many stories from the AMC crowd where the person doing the work has sold off NOS parts that you cant get, never did any work to the car.

And yes he could be telling the truth and is in poor health. If that is the case maybe the 2 of you can come up with a plan that may come to the car/truck being removed to another shop or at least back to you.

This could help him as he is not stressing over this.

Well, I do not believe anything has been sold off or anything like that. The truth be told, the work he has done is really exceptional. I think the biggest part of the issue is lack of self motivation. I've been to see him pretty regularly and he always looks like normal to me. His ailments are not the obvious kind. He is not paid in full. I think he is about 60% paid. I have to take him at his word. He wrote me yesterday and promised some photos today. he said the nose should be back together in the next few days and should be starting the engine over the weekend. fingers crossed! the 3 year anniversary of him taking the truck is in about a month... If I get some photos today, as promised, i'll share them.

Thanks for the responses guys! Its always a relief to come and vent and get some feedback!

Well it is good to hear it is only "lack of self motivation" and not something worst.
You would think after 3 years he would be tired looking at it?

Now if I could only fix my "lack of self motivation" to get on my projects!
Oh 1 of mine is going on 20+ years I have had it, only started work on it last 7 years and have only driven it 1/4 mile total all that time!

Good luck

Yea, he has a 72 Javelin he is working on too, That was already there when he took my truck... There was also a 67 mustang in there that he managed to push out. then, everything halted...

No pictures yesterday.

72 Javelin no wonder he is in a funk!
No one makes parts for AMC's, I know I got 3 and 2 of them have 1 year only front end sheet metal & bumper.

If you get to see the truck and what work has been done if you think he has done the 60% of the money worth might be best to pull it out and find some one else to finish the work.
Like I said I have heard this many times.

I am lucky I have the ability to do everything myself it is just getting the time with my crazy work hours and not to hot or cold in the garage, no heat/AC, to do the work needed at the time.
