Headlights thread again...

For christmas my wife purchased the 02-04 headlights for my truck. I am updating the look a little bit and also trying to get more light. I have a couple options. Please post pictures of your setups as well.

These are the headlights I received for christmas. http://www.1aauto.com/1A/HeadLights/...01/432874/2004

Option A) http://dfuser.com/catalog/harness.php Dfuser relay harness with good bulbs. Cost would be around $150 after shipping and taxes.

Option B) Hid kit from DDM Tuning: HID and LED Lighting Both have been recommened here on FTE. Do I get a 35w kit or 55w. I am not looking to retrofit purely for cost reasons. Cost here would be less than $60 plus shipping.

If you have another brand that is prefferable please share as well.
Thanks for your help. Priority is more light.

DDM has had somequakity some quality and customer service issues. HIDs sound not cost $60... think about it.

If you want HIDs look into the retrofit source.

What I used:

99-04 Ford F250 / F350 Superduty Euro Projector Headlights Headlamps

specifically:

HID Xenon + 99-04 Ford F250 F350 Superduty LED Crystal Headlights - Black

Go with the 35 w.

Good luck

Thanks for the input fellas.

Mecdac- I already have the headlights I will be using. Updated orignal post with a link. Thanks for the pictures, I was more meaning the light output possibly a comparison if possible.

A/Ox4- Will these work? Have you used this setup in stock housing?

No, those are illegal, as are any HID kits that simply replace the halogen bulb with an HID bulb. If you want HIDs, they need to be in a projector housing that's made for HIDs.

Sounds like I am going to run the newer housings for a while and see how that goes. Maybe later think about upgrading farther. Thanks for the input.

Your going to be pleased with the upgrade from the 99 housings to the clear ones. If you do a quality bulb with the heavy duty harness you'll be very pleased with the improvement over stock.

As stated HIDs in the factory housing can cause huge issues for incoming drivers. If you must buy them go with the the retrofit source.

The DDM kits are a roulette game at best. Except odds are you get a crap kit. They were good about 8 years ago and then they cheaped out and went Chinese. I would definitely be against those kits if it were me.

ok, so here we go again..... can you please tell me where you saw/read projectors are illegal?? More cars come with projectors than halogen in todays market. IMO projectors are better than anything else on the market for the simple reason you have an adjustable "cutoff" line so it does not blind oncoming cars. This pic looks better than throwing HID 6000k bulbs in factory housing and having light everywhere.

The link he posted is not for a retrofit kit. Just the regular kit for halogen housings that trs sells. Not 100% sure if its illegal, but 100% sure its less effective then projectors. And most of the time more annoying.

I have to admit, I'm starting to consider upgrading my headlights. I'm not real satisfied with my stock light output. I haven't invested much time to research light kits yet. But, I was really not happy with the idea of cutting up my wiring harness or cutting and modding the headlight buckets on my stock lights.

So, anyway, I followed the link that Mecdac showed, and I found this set:

HID Xenon + 11-13 Ford F250 / F350 / F450 Superduty CCFL Angel Eye LED Projector Headlights - Chrome

This seems to be their "best" kit? Does anyone have this kit on their truck? I know Mecdac has the next lower setup (at least I think I have that right?).

I like the idea of not cutting up wires, and having a "drop in" kit that I can reverse back to stock if needed is a huge plus to me. Is this kit a quality setup? Are their any other kits or companies similar, but better? Or is this as good as it gets?

On the "color" of the bulbs, subjective I know, but I think I would either prefer the 4300K "OEM white" or maybe the 6000K "Crystal white". I know I don't want "Blue" lights, or worse, purple lights. Which one gives "better" night vision, white, or (light blue?) crystal white? I'm too old to be a "mall cruiser", so I'm not doing it for the "cool look". I just want to be able to see better down the road at night.

Any issues with this kit? I've heard of some light kits injecting noise into the radio/stereo systems. Is that a possible issue with this kit? Wondering if the lack of splicing will help that? Any issues with the kit/bulbs/lights and COLD weather (like -30 to -40 deg F)?

Is fog an issue, and do I need to stay in a certain color for fog/snow/blizzard?

Any issues with the light bezel plastics fogging up/fading due to sun and weather?

And, specifically to this kit, what the heck is a "Warning Canceler" that they charge $10 extra for?

If there's a better kit/company out there, I'm all ears too. I don't go around lighting cigars with $100 bills, but I'm not trying to put the cheapest crap I can find on my truck. If I do put a mod like this in, I want it to be high quality and last a long time. I plan on keeping this truck at least 20 years, more if I live longer.

Justin- Thanks for the input, its much appreciated. I will probably install the housings and wait to get a relay harness after february when birthdays and holidays are over.

Does anyone else make the relay harness specific to our trucks besides Dfuser?

Slowpoke-As with any aftermarket lights its always recommended to seal them priorp to install. Most prefer as far as color from what I have read no more than a 6000k bulb. They produce a natural light before the colors change. And the warning canceler is for newer cars and rigs where it will think the headlights are out.

Just so you can compare everything available to you, you may choose to give Brian @ Blackbird Lighting Solutions
You would send him your new lights and he would install projectors in them, complete with halo's if you wish. Then all you need to do is mount the ballasts behind your headlights and plug everything in. That will make a world of difference for light output. Anything else imo is just wasting $$$.

Thanks for the info. As stated I will probably hold off and just go with the housings and newer bulbs, then in a couple months add a relay harness. The best bulb I have read about on here is the silverstar ultras. It will be the most cost effective route.
