So, I'm knee deep in my 77 supercab shortbed. I was going to drop it a few inches and make a nice clean street truck out of it. I'm running a mild built 460 out of a 71 Lincoln and either a ZF-5 or a NV-4500. I have both and the kit needed to put the 4500 on to the ford motor and both are 4X4 and I have the t-cases. I also have a mid 90's front 60 and 10.25 rear end that currently reside under my Scout rock crawler.
I'm thinking since Scab shortbeds never came 4X4 that would be cool and different.
What do you guys think? Keep it 2 wheel drive and cherry it out or make a nice stout 4X4. It would be on the street mostly with maybe some real mild off road.
A 4x4 is more versatile and if you're okay with lots of fabbing, I say go for it. However, a neat and clean street truck is simpler, more friendly week in and week out. You've already got a 4x4 toy, right?
... the latter was the same conclusion I came to so now the fleet includes a 4WD Dent and a 2WD Bump... the Bump is getting EFI and a TKO-500.
I say stick with 2x4 if that is what the truck is. Fabbing is cool and all but in the end a 4x4 wouldnt be all that hard to come by just to buy and will probably save you time and money to simply do so.
