After about a year of pushing my tranny with bad #2 syncro and no 4th gear it gave up the ghost and started grinding in every gear 3 weeks ago. So I pulled it out and investigated what failed. I wound up losing the 3/4 syncro and the pocket bearing between the input and main shafts.
I didn't have time to take pictures of the whole rebuild but here a few of the failure.
Great pics. When it finally went, did it just lock itself into whatever gear you were in?
Many, many years ago, I had the needle bearings fail on an input shaft on my old 64 pick up. Lucky for me they went just as I shifted into 2nd (on a 3 speed) so when it locked itself into that gear, I was able to get myself home without too many issues.
That transmission was a little easier to pull than the ZF-6. Where are you ordering all your replacement parts? I've heard of the folks that like to upgrade use the input shaft from the 6.0 trucks since it's larger in diameter and has a better set up than the pilot bushing we have. Just need to do some work on the flywheel to make it fit.
