Thinking of getting a 2000 Expedition XLT with 150k miles... looks clean, has the 4.6L.
I'm familiar with the modular fords (own a V10 Excursion) and have owned 2 Crown Vics (1998 & 2005). I know of the plug blowouts, manifold studs... is the intake on the 2000 expy known for cracking and leaking coolant?
How are the trannys on these things? Are there any known issues with these vehicles I should look for?
He's asking $1400 for it so I know it's not mint...
Make sure the heat works properly. If the blend door is broken or (worse) the heater core leaks or is clogged, you could be in for a lot of work. Look for corrosion on the rear trailing arms. If they break, you will drop the rear and drive shaft, most likely during a stop.
Also, on 4.6s, there was a problem with the deck on the blocks where a tiny raised area would allow oil to leak out and drip on the starter. You don't want to know what it takes to fix that...
