Introducing myself

Been a member of FTE for a while, been over in the 80-86 / IDI forums with my first Ford pickup (85 6.9L). Just picked up a 79 F-250 off craigslist so I figured I'd make my way over here.

Wasn't planning on buying another truck until a buzzed late night CL perusing session, and saw an ad for a 4wd Ford for $1800. Ad spec'd it with a 351 motor, NP205 transfer case, and Dana 60's front and back. I believe its got a NP435 transmission (4 speed with the granny gear). Figured drivetrain itself was worth the price, so two days later and I've got a new addition in the driveway.

Runs and drives, but definitely needs some work. Long way from being street legal, not to mention being a total rust bucket. Since my 85 is in decent condition and road worthy, I figure this would be a great way to spend what little extra time and money I have. A little daunting thinking about the work that needs to be put in to it, but had to do the same with the 85, and looking back I'd do that again in a heartbeat.

Guess a good starting point is to change out all fluids then go from there. Looking forward to another project though. Been browsing the stickies here and lots of good info.

Welcome to the neighborhood.

Congratulations on the new addition.

Sounds like a good start with some pretty decent running gear.

What more could you ask for, that front D60 is 1000 to 1200 by itself, in some places.

Welcome to the dent side neighborhood.

Sounds like you've got yourself a nice pickup truck!

Glad you made your way into another Ford forum and not a bowtie forum

Yeah, my old boss was a diehard chevy guy - convinced me to wait for a deal on a M1008 CUCV. Unfortunately I guess all the doomsday preppers have been jacking up prices on them.

But even he couldn't deny this being a good deal. Still have to verify all the parts. I think the warranty plate matches the description I was told, but still gotta crawl under it to make sure nothing was swapped out.

Got home to take a pic of the warranty plate

Used the fordification site to decode. Looks like the stamping is a little off center, but to the best I could tell, 79 F250 4WD with a 351 2 bbl, T18 trans, Dana 60 4.10 rear, Dana 60 front without powersteering, custom built up in Mahwah for the Philly area, black vinyl interior and black paint.

I get that right? Assuming no parts were swapped (still need to get under it to look), what kind of gear ratio should I expect in the front axle?

Unrelated - how many posts before you can post pics directly instead of links?
