I have been searching for a big back window section to graft onto my truck but unfortunately they are usually to much money or way to far away (I live In Ma).
I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could post some exact dimensions with pictures of the inside and outside of the cab as I may just order a window and do the fab myself but would like to see what I am up against.
If anyone has done this in the past I would love to hear your thoughts as well.
Its not a deal breaker because I love the look of the truck with the small window too but I have the truck completlly apart so now is the time if I'm going to do it.
I am going to start a build thread soon as I gather up some photos.. I am installing a crown vic front end and a no limit fat bar 4 link to the chassiss currentlly
I think that the stamping for the larger window cut-out is in place on the cab, whether or not that option was used. At any rate, the dimensions would be difficult to even take.
There should be some drawings in either the shop manual, or the Illustrated Parts and Accessories catalog. Also, there is an available the repopped Body, Trim & Sealant Manual, from Jim Osborn Productions, that may give dimensions.
Not sure where you live, but when it is hot as it is here, I am grateful to not have the BBW, as the cab in my buddies BBW makes it like sitting in a greenhouse with all that glass. At my age, I am about comfort, not style.
I know a friend with big rear window glass. Believe it is original. In great condition. He is asking $120 plus shipping
I am looking for the metal section for the cab. Or someone that was willing to share some measurement or possiblly make a cardboard template so I could cut it out and fab it myself.
The glass and rubber is in reproduction and easy to get but at that price I will think about it and maybe just use that as a template. Where is your friend located

I didn't see any stamping marks which would lead me to believe the big window section was a completely separate and different sheet metal rear section that was spot welded in if that was the option the buyer wanted.
As far as the dimensions I'm not sure why you say they would be hard to take. I have used cardboard templates for doing numerous different things. Like anything it only will come out as good as you want it too.
Like I said it was just something I was thinking about but not completly sold on it..... I live up north in Massachusetts but the summers are still pretty hot. I have a 53 f100 but I always wanted a 56 or 57-60 big window thats the only reason I was thinking of the option plus I like to challenge myself and push my fabrication abilities.

My big-window cab is currently in the shop undergoing cancer surgery, but the window is out and I could get you those measurements.
I don't want to discourage you, but from what I can remember it looking like is an inner- and outer-stamping that's been welded together. It's a fairly complex (IMHO) beveled assembly that the glass fits into which also holds the seal. Probably a lot like the windshield. From my recollections the 53-56 guys used to break apart the cab from the roof seam all the way down to the bottom of the cab (thereby ruining an original 56 big window cab) to graft into their cabs. That was until the piece became commercially available.
A trashed-out 57-60 cab with a decent big-window section is probably your best bet, unless you have mad fabrication skills and are a clinical masochist.

I would prefer to find and have been searching for a trashed out cab but they are pretty hard to find in my neck of the woods.
All though I am a clinical masochist my fab skills are more angry and not full blown mad yet at this point ..... I do have some wicked cool tools though that make me look the part LOL
I would greatly aprrecaite if you could post some photos of the inner structure of the cab. I know there is going to be internal bracing to deal with and I'm sure I would have to make some because I am sure the BBW required more bracing to stiffen the cab. Maybe it will change my mind.
I am several months away from working on the body and body mods as I am doing a look of chassis & engine work plus have a few other projects to get out of the way.
I will continue to search for a trashed out cab and I guess make my mind up once I have sandblasted the cab and start the metal work .
Rippy, you are correct. I thought that the same cabs were used for either the large or small rear window, and the correct size opening cut in as the cab came down the assy. line. I was thinking that the larger dimensioned opening was visible in the cab stamping, but I am of course wrong.
Cannot help you with dimensions, as I have small rear window.
If you join your local chapter of FTE, there might be a fridge owner within driving distance, and you could persuade him to let you examine it.
I went through my copy of the 1957 Ford Body Builder's Layout Book which has schematic drawings and dimensions for about everything on these trucks. Except the big back window. If it's not in that book I don't where the heck you'd find it. Stu

I emailed Bobs f100 a few days ago and just got a reply. He said he gets $3500 to $4500 for a big window cab and has a junk one and will sell me the section I need for $2500..... and thats not even including shipping..... Thats some crazy pricing I bought my whole project truck for 1300. and that was a complete truck.... That small window is looking better and better......

I have a Big Back window sitting out in the shed, would it help you if I made a butcher paper tracing of the window?

It would help to see how much of the cab needs to be removed for sure. Does the BBW munt in the same style rubber as the small???
A member said he was going to get me some pictures after Xmas so I can see what I'm up against. So I guess I'm going to wait to see how ford pieced it together
