I'm not much of a music/stereo enthusiast, but my time reading here has brought my XLT trim sound systems short comings to my attention.
These came out of a project jeep I'm building for trail use, are they worth my time to install?
Yes they are worth installing, they are a much better quality speaker than the stock ones. If you compare the two you'll see what I mean. If you do this you'll want to get some of these so they'll plug right in. Metra 72-5600 (met-725600) Speaker Adapter for Select Ford
I put in four Infinity REF-8602cfx 6" x 8"/5" x 7" last year and it made a difference even though it's still powered by the basic XLT radio unit.
While it's not a huge difference, it was a simple upgrade and voices are more crisp.
I can pick up on those small changes.
Relatively easy to keep your stock deck and add aftermarket speakers and an amp to power them. Should sound significantly better with those two things.
Still need to do mine, as much as I like the idea of an aftermarket deck, I like the idea of keeping my sync intact too.
Thanks for the input guys! Kper, those infinity speakers were what I had my eye on, but since these fell into my lap I'll run em.
Marcov, you think these will need an amp?
I'm using the stock head unit with everything downstream replaced. Makes a huge difference just with that, an aftermarket head unit would probably help a ton more.
I've posted this in a few other audio threads but I might as well add it here in case, wiring diagram for the '11/'12 trucks.
Not necessary to run an amp. Definitely can run them powered by the stock deck, however with that being said when you add an amp that properly powers speakers you get significantly better sound, less distortion etc.
60Wx4 channel RMS, with speaker level inputs. Which allows you to run an amp without having to convert to RCA plugs for your input. The speaker level input is what allows you to run it with a stock deck.

Thanks for this info. I think I'll add it to my future upgrades list.
I have them in my truck. While there are other speakers that are recommended here these pioneers are cheap but still a great and noticeable upgrade. I put them in while I cash up for a major upgrade down the road. Enjoy
