Am thinking about putting a "Ford" brand front cover bra on my 2003 Explorer Sport. I've never been a big fan of these things on passenger cars but the photos on the web with Ford's version of this look pretty good and it looks like it would be protective against stone chips and bugs and such. This particular bra covers the entire front of the truck. ITs two piece design allows hood opening without having to remove it. The cover itself is black vinyl with a soft flannel backing. It attaches with a series of plastic hooks and clips. Looks pretty well designed to not damage paint. Its available thru ford accessories online. but my local ford dealer carries them in stock.
Has anyone out there had any experience with these things, good or bad? Your input would be appreciated!
every vehicle i have owned i have had a bra for it. (1989 Ford Festiva, 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix, 2002 Mazda Protege' 5) and i never saw any signs of paint discoloration. I would imagine that you would see this over several years duration. Also a contributor to paint fade is paint maintenece.
I think a bra is ok, but there are a few things that you must do.
1. I would wipe under it at least 2 maybe even 3 times a week, to prevent dust from scratching the paint.
2. Take it off when weelin, because the dust, mud, and dirt tend to get under there quicker.
If your that worried about getting marks on it then I would have one of those protective clear coates put on it. They are really cool, my neighbor has one on the hood of his new H2 and I dont think that anything could get through it to scratsh the paint. Ooh and ThePheonixx2 it's FUBAR not foobar ;p
