Hey guys, So i'm a future f250 v10 owner. It has 150,000 miles and is a 2001.
What i want to know, is what should i look for maintenance or repairs that need to be done to f250's.
Ive read something about coils?
Ive also read about spark plug issues too?
Are there anything else that I should be aware of when it comes to a v10 f250.
Is maintenance and repairs expensive when it comes to an f250? I am pretty handy when it comes to a wrench but other more SERIOUS repairs I would probably take to a mechanic.
Welcome to FTE, and congrats on the new-to-you truck.
As far as 250 specific items, it is a truck that was meant to work, so wear and tear on the suspension and steering might be present. Have them checked out by a trusted mechanic. This should help you plan for when you need to give them more TLC.
There is another forum here for the V10 - Modular V10
Check down there for specifics about your engine.
Are repairs expensive? Not like a European sports car, but some parts are bigger and sturdier than what grocery-getters use, so of course they cost more.
When you consider that what these trucks can do day-in, day-out would ruin a lesser vehicle, it seems that maintenance is a small price to pay for what they give back.
Congrats and welcome to fte also! As far as coils go, those either work or they don't and only need replacing when they go out. I have had two to out in under 45,000 miles but others have gone hundreds of thousands widthout having any go out. Plugs are kind of tricky with these motors if you aren't decent with a wrench. You can't just tighten them until they feel food like a cast iron head. Make sure not to cross thread them, use anti seize and torque them to the exact specs. I use an inch lb torque wrench instead of ft lb on mine because it gives a more accurate and noticeable click.
I would go ahead and change the oil, filters(air, oil, fuel, tranny), check the coolant(quality, not just if it is full) and belts and hoses. I would change the plugs too, but that is just a personal preference for wanting to be sure they were in right.
I`ve always googled my Superduty related issues/questions to get to this forums related threads and believe me everything that will ever happen to that truck has been covered just have to look for it
