I have roughly $27K in my Ex, I would not take $35K for her, looking at eBay I probably could not replace her for $30K, and if I totaled her (or him depending on the day) I would get KBB value or roughly $7K from my local insurance provider. I have asked for a rider policy on top of standard with no luck. There has to be a better solution. Any idea?
I have AAA and I specifically asked my agent that if God forbid I get totaled if I would get full value for, say my bumper which is pricey, and was assured I would. I hope it`s not a load of crap or we are headed to litigation.
Speaking of my 01 here.
Just have liability insurance and start a bank account for the rest you would have paid every month. After not making any insurance claims like ever in my life I saved enough to buy two new vehicles (or more). Insurance is a rip off!
I have full coverage on mine, although part of me agrees with Snowseeker. Who is your insurance with? It makes a difference. Progressive sucks, big time. I dealt with them when I totalled my VW years ago and have heard other horror stories. I have All State and they have been REALLY good. Although, you never get covered for aftermarket parts though I dont think. How many miles are on your truck?
Nationwide can send a adjuster to look at it and price it higher for. I did that on my vette when I supercharged it and my spl bass jeep. Jeep was only worth 2k but all my sound equipment was 6k lol
In responding to this insurance thread, I realized I never posted the picture of that disturbing day when a live oak's branch hit dead center in my roof drivers side a while back. I leave you with a few notes about insurance related issues involving totals or near-totals.
Liberty Mutual treated me very right, and listened to my arguments not to total (I guess most folks want their cars KO'd). What made the difference (for not totaling) was my mod records/receipts of replacement of stock components. "If you can demonstrate good maintenance and mechanical improvements, you may be able to win your totaled car a reprieve." (Should you keep your 'totaled' car? - 1 - auto insurance - MSN Money).

+1, my biggest fear isn't insurance, it is the fact that it is cheaper to write off the excursion that to get a new one for the insurance company. They are getting rarer and rarer now, atleast here where I live. My family owned 2 out of 3 in the 200000 residents hehe.
make sure its the other persons fault if its gonna be totaled, i bought my old '00 for $7,800 it was totaled 2 months later by a lady not yielding and her insurance paid $12k...but my neck still hurts bad from time to time dang nerve damage.
I'm basically the same way. Full coverage as required when it's still being payed on, but bare minimum on anything paid off. Never had an accident that was my fault, never should
I"m full coverage as well, but I like what Andy said... LIability and just bank the rest you would be paying.... but knowing my luck, the first month I took it down to liability and something would happen.
Has anyone increased their coverage because they got Studs in their 6.0? I mean that is a chunk of change to have done and to not get any extra for it would be a shame....
Got full coverage on both my Excursions and a great insurance agent. I went to high school with her and her husband so she keeps it affordable
The '01 has full coverage, but the fear of it being totaled if damaged is a concern. It's a VERY well maintained truck that I take good care of. Matter of fact, both my trucks are.
It's good to know that good maintenance and receipts may save you and your truck if it's totaled.
