460 Build Tips

Just got my 460 block back from the machine shop. had it bored 040 over and crank resurfaced. looking for any tips and tricks before i start reassembly. the engine is going in an 86 F250 xcab flatbed work truck. i will b using it mostly for firewood and atv haulin so keep that in mind when making your recommendations. also i currently only have a chilton service manual for my truck and am wondering if theres a better manual available for assembling the engine.

Did you have machine shop hone cylinders to clearance recommended from manufacturer of your new pistons? The piston selection needs to be made based on your head's combustion chamber size. The machinist should be able to tell you if block is square to crank center line and maybe machine top of block to meet desired compression ration/ piston to top of block clearance. Machinist would need one of your new pistons and a connection rod to do that. I would shoot for like 9.5 to one compression ratio for 87 octain gas. Put a RV tow cam with a set of cheapest long tube headers. Put a factory or aftermarket 4 barrel intake and a 3310 model Holley 750 cfm vacume secondary carb. Up grade to electronic ignition like MSD. You probably will need a rear sump oil pan and matching oil pump pick up tube if this engine came from a car. The timing chain cover might need cut open for mech. fuel pump if you want to run that and engine was formerly fuel injected.
