Just a few more hours and I can start again. Today's game plan includes putting on the oil pan getting the motor mounts put on as well as all of the accessories. I am thinking of buying a junked tranny for w core cutting the bell housing off so I can mount the bell housing so I can get the wiring done asap cause money is an issue at the moment so I have to we t for my clutch kit slave cylinder clutch line and master cylinder until income tax along with odd and end parts like the fuel pressure regulator and gauge.

Well I took in a load of screap today and scored a 3in schedule 40 piece of pipe for 10 bucks. This is the start of my stack. I'm also about to remove my bed to start working my flat bed and my new gas tank. Since I'm going carb then I won't be using 2 tanks and I wont be needing a return line. I have a side mount gas tank that will bolt either to the frame or to the bed. The bed will probly be scrapped cause it does have a good sized dent in the side of it and I really don't feel like doing the body work plus it gives me a reason to put a flat bed on it.

I want to know more about what happened to the old engine? What do you mean blew a piston? Did the rings go? Did it lose compression on one cylinder? Did the piston melt?

The old motor just gave up. I had no cross hatching left in any of the cylinders. The cylinders had burn spots in them and I lost compression in cylinders 1358. So I got a rebuilt 289 that I'm putting into her.

Good looking project! A friend of mine used rhino liner bedliner on his pickup. He did the whole thing. It actually does not look too bad. He did it right, removed all the molding and chrome stuff, then replaced everything after he had it rhino painted. It makes a great hunting truck, no worries about scratching it driving through the pastures.
Porting and polishing heads is not too hard. I enjoy doing it, except it takes so long. I don't know how many cutters I burned up on my dremel. When I did the 351 heads on put on my 302 in my mustang I worked about 2 to 3 hours a night for a couple of weeks before I had them the way I wanted them!

Thanks buddy. It wasn't intended to be a project but hey chit happens and it gives me time to save money plus make it the way I want it lol. Build it right the first time so it doesn't happen again lol. How's that 5.4 coming along or is it the 4.6?

How many miles did the old engine / truck have on it?
Last year I freshened up/ hopped up a 91 with 150k miles on it and the cross hatching was in great shape, I didnt hone it or anything.

I'm not sure if the 87 truckblock was a roller lifter ready but my 91 was. Passing on that cheap upgrade is leaving lots of free power on the table.

I removed the front bumper.

I wound up using the stock bumper brackets and welded them to the bumper. There's still a lot more to do to it but it was a great start today

Also I did a little rust preventive cause I had a little rust popping up. I used a dewalt drill will a wire wheel and cleaned the metal till is was shiny then put black primer onto the clean metal till I can get around to fixing the areas.
