But do they both have same 110" wheelbase chassis? The drive line from a f100 4 speed should work I'm thinking. And BTW, thanks so much Stu! The dipstick and gaskets arrived today. I'll check the oil tomorrow

The panel and the F100 are 110" I think a drive shaft from a pickup should work fine. I used a drive shaft from a pickup for my 3spd and it was an exactly the same so the 4spd should be too.

does 8" to top of dipstick tube mean 8" to the "cap"?

The original has an additional 1" below that which is tapered the last 3/8" or so. The remaining 4" are above the "stop", and are formed into a loop for gripping. You could of course just make sure it has five quarts in there and make a mark where the level hits the stick!

I will measure the one that Stu sent me on Wednesday. I'm heading off to zzzzzzzzzzzz land as I have to get up at 4:30 to catch the early ferry. My '92 f350 is waiting for an injector pump, so I'll be driving my '59 to Seattle and then back by noon to pick up almost 4000 lbs of beams to bring back to the island. That's a lot of weight for a pickup truck. I will take my camera. It is gonna be a tough grind when I get back to the island. It is very hilly here, but old fords are really, really tough trucks. The '59's frame looks like it belongs under a ton and a half.......

Yes, and I think the gvw is 9600. It now has a '92 sterling 10 1/4 rear axle fom an F350 dually pickup. The guy wasn't done with the beams so he only had half the weight for me. 2300 lbs. I did pick up a correct flywheel for my flathead v8 project I'm working on. I had to drive down the interstate to Seattle in the morning to make a delivery to a church we are doing restoration work on, then race back up here to two different stops and got back to the 3:05 ferry with one minute to spare. Actually I was two minutes late, but the ferry was running three minutes late. Was in the fast lane for the full hour of freeway travel, and passed a lot of surprised folks.... Pictures tomorrow after I get some sleep. zzzzzzzzz

Not sure of the speedometer error, (Chev tranny , cummins, '92 rear....), but I was keeping up with the fast lane. On I-5 that is 70 posted speed limit. For you hot rodders , that's nothing, but this has a 210 cu. in diesel with 120 hp, and a home-made driveshaft and front hubs. I thought it did ok for what it is, keeping in mind it probably had a top speed of 50 as built.
