My 1996 F350 with Mass air and EEC-V (Calif) has had a history of running problems. When I bought it, the PO made a point of telling me that he had just put a new Distributor in it, and I fought running/missing issues for 9 months, before the truck quit on I 40 in New Mexico this summer. I had bought a "NEW" distributor on eBay and stached it behind the seat, just in case. So I changed the distributor by the side of the road, and I will be damned if the truck ran like a new one again! So I found a new made in USA PIP sensor on ebay and replaced the one in the dist. I just removed once I got back home, and once again put it behind the back seat. Lately the truck, although running ok, has been setting off Check Engine light and setting codes P0300,P0304,P0305. I have changed plugs on both #4 and #5 cylinder, as well as spark plug wires again. but it was making me crazy!! Today after being in town, I was driving back home about 60 mph, and the engine started missing violently, and then return to normal. Did this 3 more times and I knew then that the "NEW" dist. I had put in a few months ago was on its way out!! I got home and replaced the faulty dist with the one I had put the "made in USA PIP in, and no more missing no more codes or CEL!!! Oh yeah I just ordered 2 more PIP sensors to keep a spare dist. behind the seat. Reminds me of Dura Spark modules!! LOL!! Dale
Reliability of aftermarket ignition components these days is abysmal, I have seen them only last a week or be DOA right out of the box. Fuel pumps aren't much better.
Poor quality, man, that's for sure! Like I said, reminds me of the Dura Spark ignition frequency of failure long ago! I'll just keep looking for American made PIPs and carry a spare dist. Merry Christmas!!!! Dale
