302 questions

I have been working on this 302 for a month or so getting it prepped to go into my truck, well..as time grows close I am still confused on some things.

First, there are three wires coming out of the distributor...these were not on my '65 so what do I do w/ them?

Second, in a bundle of wires were three I am unsure of. two w/ clips on the ends and one w/ like a 90 degree female plug. Where would these go?

Third, is it possible to convert back to manual choke from the electric? ANd what is involved?

It came out of a 78 1/2 ton. Thanks for any help!

Three wires from the dist are for electronic ignition. You can convert back to points or get the ignition module and wiring harness for the 78.

Wire with 90 degree female plug sounds like the temperature or oil pressure sensor.

You can buy a universal manual choke conversion kit from most parts stores or go to a salvage yard and get the parts from a sixties truck.

Thanks for the reply, I kinda thought that was for electronic ignition. How do I convert back to points? Just a new distributor? And the female 90's I think u are right on those once I looked at it. As for the choke, the engine is going in a '65 truck which already had a manual choke and such, should that just be a bolt up thing w/ the old junk? Thanks again!

You will need a 74-earlier 289/302 distributor to change back to points. The 300 choke parts probably wont fit a v8 carb. Choke parts from a sixties v8 will fit the 78 carb.

Thanks for that reply. I guess I'll be lookin' into a new distributor. As for the choke, would it be bad to leave the electric choke on it or do I have to run wires for that too? If I do then i'll be heading to the junk yard for parts. Thanks again!

Electric choke requires one wire to stator terminal on the alternator.
