I have 2 tach's. I'm not sure which one works if any, but I still wanna try hooking them up. One of them only has 2 wires. A ground and a long tan-ish colored one. The other tach has 5 wires: a long green one, yellow, black, tan, and a short blue. I'm wondering why one has only 2 wires while the other has 5. And can someone tell me where each of the wires get hooked up to? I tried hooking up the one with 2 wires. Put one wire on the coil's positive wire, then tried grounding the other one only to get shocked...So I need some help Thanks
I don't mean to hijack the thread but how do you tell which side of the coil is the negative side? That's all I need to figure out to be able to hook up my tach.
I think positive is the top wire. That is what you wanted to know right? My head isn't working and I can't think striaght right now. Milano cookies are getting to me......
I think my 86 tach only had 2 wires. There was a ground, and then a connection that went from the coil to the fuse box and then to the tach. I thought on all of our trucks the tach connect wire is dark green with yellow dots. I found mine on the driver's wheel well.
I do have the Haynes manual though, so I can check that and make sure for an 81.
