My little brother got a 87 bronco eddie baur edition it has a 351w H.O. we were wondering what the cfm of the carb and is it a good carb? Any suggestions on improving the HP from 210 to 300?
If the carb that is on it is the stock one, I think it is a Motorcraft by Holley 650. I had one on my 86 and could never get it tuned to where I liked it. Put in different power valves, etc and just was never happy with it. I am a Predator kind of a guy, but this was a daily driver, so I put a Carter AFB 650 on it and it ran like a champ.
Up the ponies? How much do you want to spend? What are the emissions like in Indiana? I would start with the carb, get a K&N air filter, put some headers on it with true duals and Flowmasters. That should get you maybe 230hp.
To gain 90hp, you are going to be pulling the engine, rebuilding it, putting in a big cam, porting and polishing the heads, or better yet, putting on Aluminum heads. Roller rockers and lifters. And lots of extra $.
The engine in my truck in my gallery is a 1969 351 Windsor. We put it on the dyno at the engine shop and it was 330hp 360 lb.ft. torque both at about 4500 rpm.
Do you have desktop dyno? It is a program you can buy and play around with the options you want to try and it will give you a fairly accurate estimate of your horsepower.
Broncoguy Thanks for the info, Here in IN. We have no emissions laws so we kinda just run anything. Nice bronco in the gallery I sold my bronco when I bought the truck in my gallery. Like my truck but miss my bronco I had a 78 and an 80 liked them both. Now my little brother is finally catching on. Thanks
