How do I know if I have a limited slip differential?
I just ordered a new "Mag-Hytec" Differential cover for my rear end, and they suggested that I get "friction modifier" if I have a limited slip diff. I wasn't sure so I ordered it anyway.
get both rear wheels off the ground and spin one.. if they turn the same direction you have LS, if they turn opp directions than you dont>> you can buy that friction modifier at any auto parts store so i would recommend ordering it just in case
A: On the tag on the rear axle you will see the gear ratio. If you have an L between the first and second number, then you have a LS unit. You can also raise the rear wheels and spin one wheel. If the other wheel spins opposite then you have an Open Differential. If it spins WITH, then you have a Limited Slip.
Yes I do have limited slip both wheels turn is the same direction and I have an L on the rear end tag. Found out yesterday when installed a new "Mag-Hytec" diff. cover. Very easy to put on and I didn't spill a drop of oil when I filled back up becuase of the easy dip stick/fill hole.
