Tires

I'm very new to this and would like to know how to tell if my 1955 c600 has widow-maker rims. The tire size is 9.00-20

If you have some pictures to post we can help determine what you have. Easiest to notice on your rear outer duals. If there is an approx 2" wide raised band on the inside of the wheel behind the drop center area then they are widow makers.
The rasied band is roughly 3/16 " tall.

Sorry im on my phone or i would post a link to pictures of the widow makers. If you google search widow makers and fte you wilk probably find a few threads on this.

Do you have 5 lug wheels? I think 56ish was a transition year from 5 lug to 6 lug wheels. Ive seen 56 f500's with 5 lug and 56 f600's with the six lugs.

It most likely does, sorry to say. This picture will tell you for certain. If you see the raised band around the middle on the concave sides of the rims, that's with joint where the halves connect.

If, however, you see a ring located on the convex side/face side of the rim they are the safer side ring/lock ring style that can in most parts of the country still be serviced.

Regardless of how good the tires are, it is the RIM that presents the DANGER!

Right, if you have widow makers you could reuse your tires on replacement wheels like in my second picture above. The most common donor vehicles for these safer wheels are IHC and Dodge trucks clear into the 1970s model years. The easiest to service are those having Goodyear split rings as pictured below. There were dozens of different designs with variations even within the design for differing rim widths. As long as you ensure that the replacement rim and ring stay together as a matching set you are in good shape. Assuming no severe rust or other damage to the donor wheels. Stu

Stu I was talking to a freind and A tire shop guy he buy tires from told him that rims/ wheels on UPS trucks up to the mid 90's use 5 and 6 bud wheels. Does that sould right?

Six lug, yes. Five lug, don't think so. Accuride #28157 is/was a 6 x 8.75" pattern wheel in the tubeless 22.5" x 6.75" size. It was listed in the last Accuride on-line catalog I looked at. But I think I recall reading that it is no longer sold new. These are pretty commonly available, though, used.

The 5 lug x 8" pattern, on the other hand, hasn't been available in any size since Accuride's 1981 catalog. That too was a tubeless 22.5" x 6.75", Accuride #27759. The last Budd reference showing both 22.5" and 19.5" is dated 1979. Whether similar metric pattern 5 lug wheels continued to be available on import trucks (UD, Isuzu, etc) I don't know. I have no reference, though, that cites numbers for such wheels. My references go up to 2002. Stu
