Wheel size

I am trying to put on 1966 back to stock and got a couple of questions.... 1. what was the "correct" tire size in modern day sizes? 2. a couple of the wheels measure like 5 1/2 inches and some measure 6 inches and some measure 7 1/2 inches from side to side where the tire bead would be if mounted on wheel. What is going on here????

I have a '65 with the original wheels and am popping two of the tires off later this week. I can measure them if you want.
Correct rims have the dimples for the dog dish hubcaps facing IN towards the wheel center. Later ones have the dimples facing outward.

Kind of depends on which model you have (100, 250...) and within a given model, there were options. For ex: the 250 came with 16" stock dia. but you could order 17.5's and 19's. There were width choices as well, so you see with all the permutations involved, we need to know more.

I already have the hubcaps to use that need the dimples facing out. What size are the tires on your original wheels and yes PLEASE measure from bead to bead and let me know width
